On June 22, 2025, I visited the historic Lukang Longshan Temple. The day was bright and sunny, with gentle sunlight casting a golden glow over the ancient temple buildings.
As I walked through the main gate, the stone guardian statues on both sides caught my attention immediately. Then I looked up at the impressive heavenly warriors carved above the five-gate hall – each figure was so lifelike and detailed. What touched me most were the dragon pillars in front of the worship hall. One pillar had the inscription “Built in the second year of Xianfeng reign, in the auspicious month,” showing that this temple carries more than a century of history.
The weather was perfect, and the crowd was just right – not too busy, which allowed me to quietly appreciate the exquisite stone carvings scattered throughout every corner of the temple. Watching the devotees pray with such sincerity, even though I don’t share the same faith, I could still feel a calming power that brings peace to the heart. Among these ancient stone artworks and shifting shadows, time seemed to slow down.
